Laga embroidered handbags and travel bags are handcrafted by survivors of the 2004 tsunami in Aceh province, Sumatra, Indonesia. Our eco/animal-friendly Tasik Collection is handmade from natural fibers by the needy in Tasikmalaya, Java, Indonesia. Our beaded purses are made in Bali, Indonesia. All Laga embroidered bags are sewn with cotton thread onto nylon-polyester material with a water-resistant 1/16" polyurethane backing. The lining inside our cosmetic bag and coin purse is made of nylon. Our medium and larger embroidered bags are lined with satin and all four sizes of travel bags are padded with polyester batting for extra protection.

Laga embroidered handbags, travel bags and accessories are all sewn on a non-electric treadle machine. There is no template or stencil used; all the designs are committed to memory and hand-guided, free motion, an artform and traditional designs that are indigenous to Aceh.

All of the handmade handbags in our Tasik Collection are made of eco/animal-friendly natural fibers and non-leather synthetic materials by the needy in Tasikmalaya, Indonesia, while our beaded bags are all hand-strung in Bali, Indonesia.

We at Laga Designs are so proud to be involved in this project which not only helps rebuild the Aceh community but, for the first time in history, also provides an avenue to share their amazing talent with the rest of the world.

We have included in our line handmade bags from the islands of Java and Bali in order to expand our reach to include the needy in various parts of Indonesia as well.

Laga handbags are individually handmade, embroidered handbagsand travel bags by survivors of the 2004 tsunami in Banda Aceh, Sumatera, Indonesia, our beaded purses in Bali, Indonesia and our Tasik Collection by the needy in Tasikmalaya, Java, Indonesia.

Our primary goal is to provide disaster victims with hope for a better future by giving them training, employment and income with which they can sustain themselves.
