As we gather with our families on Easter in remembrance of what Christ has done for us, it has become part of our tradition to incorporated the worldly meaning of Easter as well.

The Christian custom of Easter eggs, specifically, started among the early Christians of Mesopotamia, who stained eggs with red coloring in memory of the blood of Christ, shed at His crucifixion.

In the 1700’s, the story and tradition of the Easter Bunny was brought to the United States from Germany. In legend, the Easter Bunny carries colored eggs, candy, and sometimes also toys in his basket to the homes of children. And in modern days, parents and children do the coloring of the Easter eggs together which is a fun tradition!  But the hiding of the Easter eggs and candies for their children to find is usually the job of mom and dad (or, as in our family, grandparents, aunts, uncles and older cousins). It is so heart-warming to see the little ones’ eyes light up as they scramble to find as many colorful eggs they can, in search for the ultimate “golden” egg which usually holds something very special.

Regardless of how you celebrate Easter, it is always a very special Spring day that brings families together all over the world and from all walks of life. And that in itself is certainly worth celebrating!
