Hello Laga Family + Friends!
Oh my goodness, has it really been this long since I posted anything on our blog?
Between our travels from show to show around the country as well as our first overseas show in Birmingham, England this past year, we have been working hard on our new website which just launched this week and we keep busy fulfilling the orders we receive online.
Just to recap, we have entered into our 12th year with Laga. Yes, twelve, T.W.E.L.V.E.!!!
It’s hard to believe, the time has just flown by! This August 2018 will be completion of the 12th year that we have been working with and for the people in Aceh Province, Sumatra, Indonesia in our effort to help them rebuild their lives after that horrendous earthquake and subsequent tsunami on December 26, 2004. We officially began Laga in August of 2006. It’s been a slow but steady process with its many challenges… but we’re still plugging along and making a difference in the lives of people.
2018 sure did come quickly and now we are preparing for our very first show of the year:
January 18-21, 2018 Road to California Quilter’s Conference and Showcase
We always seem to have great attendance at Road every year! And the fun part for us is that it is practically in our backyard! There are not too many shows in California to which we can just drive home every night or stay with family nearby!
This will actually be our 4th year at Road2CA held at the Ontario Convention Center. Vendor spaces are a hot commodity and highly coveted at this show so it took us nearly six years to finally be accepted. We sure are happy to have been given the opportunity! But although we are so new here, we did have some very excited return customers *yay!* and we made many, many new friends as well! Here are just a few of our amazing Laga friends.
One of our newest styles, Paspor large has finally made it onto our new Laga website, unfortunately it sells out as soon as we get a shipment in, get it while you can!
Another very popular bag is Laga’s dark blue|cream Selalu bag which means “always.” Not too small, not too big. Perfect to be worn on your shoulder + comes in several different color combinations.
One of our most popular Laga handbags is called Harapan Large which means “hope.” It is shown here in large but it also comes in medium and small, + it is also available in several color combinations.
There was one very special lady who really touched my heart… Mary is 92 years old. She came back to our booth again + again during the show + spent quite a bit of time picking out the exact right Laga handbag, here shown in our patriotic colors Red, White and Blue, and wallet in Dark Blue and Black. She didn’t want them to be “matchy matchy” but was so very happy in being able to support our important work. Isn’t she just absolutely adorable?
It is certainly the support of people like you + Mary who make exhibiting at shows worth every minute for us + that keeps us going every year. We enjoy meeting you + telling our Laga story.
And the show certainly wouldn’t be complete without the 2017 Award-Winning Quilts
“The characters thunder with life right off the page and into your heart…”
is what one reviewer said of her work. I have a couple of her books + they are truly delightful. Here is a link to where you can check out her work.
Jennifer Patterson, owner + designer of Quilted in Clay, is another very talented artist whose work I have admired, acquired + given as gifts many times over. Her work in polymer clay is inspired by + focuses on quilting patterns + colors. She has, for the last three years, created jewelry to mirror the very popular Cherrywood Challenges. Beautiful work, beautiful person. And I’m blessed to call her my friend. Check out her stunning collection here.
Well, I’ve tried to encapsulate for you just a few of the wonderful reasons to attend Road to California. But if that’s not enough, here is what it says on their website:
“Road to California is the premier consumer quilt show West of the Rocky Mountains, awarding over $92,000 to fiber artists from around the world. More than 39,000 visitors from all 50 states and several foreign countries come each January to view exhibits featuring antique, traditional, art and modern quilts designed by both national and international quilt groups. A vibrant vendor mall of over 225 nationally and internationally known retailers feature the very latest to see, try and buy in quilt making supplies, machines, notions, antique quilts and gift items. Classes taught by a distinguished faculty are geared to all levels of quilters, offering assistance with traditional to modern techniques, hand and machine quilting skills and the latest in surface-embellishment using paint, thread and embroidery. Join us at Road to California Quilters Conference in Ontario, California for a complete immersion into the quilting world.”
If you haven’t attended before, you might want to consider it! January is the perfect time for a getaway to California + this show is the perfect reason to come! We look forward to returning to Ontario for Road to California January 18-21, 2018. We hope to see you there!
